and every act of kindness is a miracle.
Urgent, Short-term AssistanceNo matter how well anyone plans, no one can plan for everything. In a single day, you could lose your job, get in an accident, discover household damage, or find out about a medical condition that uproots your entire life. In these unexpected times, everyone needs a safety net. United Chesed aims to be that safety net for those in our community without the financial means to see themselves through hard times. Community EngagementUnited Chesed has an extensive email network which includes synagogues, organizations and individuals. If you are in need of assistance, urgent or otherwise, we can share your story anonymously with the community. In addition to raising funds on your behalf, this often leads to creative solutions. Examples of pleas we email out include requests for medical equipment, furniture, professional advice, housing, clothing, food, and employment. We strive to provide our supporters with as much information as possible so that they can make informed choices about who they help. |
If your ailment is religious in nature, please visit www.JewishAid.ca for numerous, free resources to assist you. |

Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as urgent and short-term?
Urgent means that waiting to pay for this expense will result in significant and timely loss. This could include overdue bills or rent when there is a threat of losing the service or being evicted. It could also include expensive medical equipment or assistance with food, especially during the holiday seasons.
Who do we assist?
Our clients tend to fall into two groups: those with low incomes but who are not eligible for substantial government assistance, and those who do receive government assistance but are in need of additional support on occasion. Other demographics we serve include new immigrants to Canada who may not yet be eligible for OHIP or other forms of assistance.
What exactly can United Chesed do for me?
Depending on your case, we may be able to help you directly either by covering an expense or providing you with food coupons to supplement your expenses. If we can't help directly, we can send an anonymous plea out on your behalf to our extensive network, raising funds on your behalf or finding you support in other ways. We are also able to direct clients to social service agencies and other resources that may be able to offer long-term solutions.
United Chesed looks at every situation on a case-by-case basis; the best way to find out if you quality for assistance is to contact us directly and ask.
